A: Karl's Korner has grown since it was first created. My POW/MIA pages were the first pages I put online because it is an issue I believe we must keep people aware of. I am a member of Operation Just Cause. Please take the time to peruse these pages and consider "adopting" an MIA for your website.
I have become sort of the "unofficial" USS Mansfield DD-728 page. There is a complete ship's history and many photos. There are sections on WW II, Korea, Vietnam, A-bomb tests and much more. Visit the Photo Locker and see pictures of shipmates, the Mansfield underway, refueling, shooting mission in Vietnam, and several of the ship's cruise books. Read the Sea Tales of shipmates from all eras and look for a friend from the past on the extensive (190+) Shipmate email list.
Although much of this site is dedicated to the Mansfield, it only represents the first year of my Navy enlistment. After leaving the ship I went to CTR (Communication Technician, later renamed Crtyptologic Technician) school in Pensacola, Florida and then on to (Naval Security Group Activity) NSGA Bremerhaven, Germany. I am happy to say this section of my site has grown at an enormous rate and is now as comprehensive as my Mansfield pages. There are pictures, articles, and a (250+) Bremerhaven Alumni email list.
There are two sections of Links pages: Veterans Links, which link to other vets, military, POW/MIA sites. The second links page goes to sites of general interest and a variety of subjects.
If you want to learn more about me, please go to my Biography page.
I have been fortunate enough to earn several Site Awards. Each award is a link to the presenter. Please consider a visit to their sites.
Before you leave, please take the time to sign my guestbook, thanks.

A: The Menu buttons found on the Index Page will take you to the different sections of Karl's Korner.
There are also links to a websites you may find interesting. Some are to the sites of applications I use in the creation and maintenance of my website. The Karl's Korner Site for Sore Eyes link will take you to a website I find interesting and useful. I change this link periodically. Other links are to webrings and causes I support.
There is also a link to my Guestbook. Please take the time to sign in and let me know you were here. You can also access the Guestbook from other sections of the website.
You can email me by clicking on the Email Guy Icon which is found on the bottom of most pages.

A: Many of the links on Karl's Korner will open a new browser window to take you to the desired webpage. I do this so that when you are done browsing the requested pages, you simply close the browser window and you will return to the referring page on Karl's Korner. This eliminates using your browser "back button". This is particularly useful if you have navigated further on the linked website or gone to another website.

A: No. All links are to other websites, webrings, Award presenter's sites and some businesses (Ship's Store) which may be of interest to Mansfield and NSGA Bremerhaven shipmates.

A: To apply for my Thumbs-up Site Award, just send me an email. Give me the URL of your website and I'll check it out. If your site qualifies and passes inspection, I'll email the award to you. All I ask is that you provide a link back to my site.

A: When I created my website, I wanted to make the user interface easy and consistent. I realize when people come to my site, they are looking for information and don't want to spend time trying to figure out how to get from one page to another.

A: Since my site was created for information rather than entertainment, I decided to go with the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) theory. Another, more important reason, is special effects tend to slow down page loading times and take up bandwidth. I prefer to use my server space for the photos and articles sent in by shipmates that tell the story of the Mansfield and NSGA Bremerhaven.

A: Other than actual photographs, most of the graphics were created by me. I have tried to credit items created by others where the author is known and linked back to their website if they have one.

A: If you would like to link to my site please do so. All I ask is that you let me know. Feel free to use one of the banner graphics on the Index Page.

A: For the most part, the answer is yes. Just email me and let me know exactly what you want to use. If you are going to post it on another website, please link back to Karl's Korner and credit the originator.

A: This section of my website is dedicated to the ship, its crew and their contributions to the history of this nation and the wars and conflicts in which they participated. This history is told in photos and stories, many submitted by the crewmen who were there. It covers the years from the Mansfield's commissioning 14 April 1944 to its sale to the Argentine Navy and subsequent dismantling beginning 24 December 1974. There is an extensive Shipmate Email list, dozens of personal photographs, a couple of Cruise Books are reproduced and many Sea Stories.

A: The "What's New/Updates" link opens a window in the center of your current browser window. Here you will find, listed by date, the updates and additions that have been made to the Mansfield pages for the current calendar year. These additions can include additions to the Shipmate Email listing, photos added to the Photo Locker, and any new features added to the Mansfield section of Karl's Korner.
Most of the line items found here are clickable links. In the case of additions to the email list, clicking the link will take you to the corresponding section of the email listing designated by the person's last name. The photo links (camera icon) will take you to the page in the Photo Locker where the new pictures are located. All links will open in a new browser window, so be sure to close the Updates window.

A: You will notice right away that the "look and feel" of this section of the website is the same as the others. The Main Mansfield page gives you a short history of the ship. There are many links from this page that will take you to more detailed pages covering events concerning the Mansfield and her crew. There is a link to the What's New/Update page for this section of page, a Search link and link to the Decklog Guestbook, as well as older Guestbooks. Many links are embedded in the text on the page. These clickable links will take you to pages giving more details on the subject concerned.

A: If you want to be added to the Shipmate listing email me with the following information: Name, Rate/Rank, Years on the ship. (Ex: Joe Smith, BM3, 1965-67)

A: You can submit photos, articles, stories, etc. to the website by email or snail mail.
If you scan your photos, you can attach them to emails. When scanning save your files as .TIF or .JPG (with MINIMUM compression or if you say it the other way, HIGHEST quality). I take the files you send and size and compress them for the web on my end. Try to keep each email less that 2MB. Use of WinZip is encouraged.
I will scan and return any items sent to me via snail mail. If you don't want to send your original photos or documents, please get QUALITY copies made and I will scan those.

There is also a set of KwikLinks to the other parts of the Bremerhaven pages. Again, the look is the same and the links operate the same as the other parts of Karl's Korner.
